2020/6 Japan Heritage certification “Birthplace of 'Japan Red' - Bitchu Fukiya, the Town of Bento Patterns and Copper”
The red pigment “Bengala (bento pattern),” which was once produced in the town “Bitchu Fukiya (Fukiya, Nariwa-cho, Takahashi-shi)” in the midwestern part of Okayama prefecture, vividly colored shrines, temples, and traditional crafts, and made a strong impression on the world by the image color “Japan Red” of Japan. The “red” cityscape of Bitchu Fukiya is unified by “reddish-brown Sekishu tiles” and “Bengala-painted lattices.” This landscape is said to have been shaped from the late Edo period to the Meiji period by wealthy merchants who made a fortune by producing Bengala. The red cityscape, which has a history of over 200 years, is a quiet mountain town, and it still remains in a very beautiful state.

There is no parking lot, so please use the downtown parking lot.

Each lesson takes about 2 to 3 minutes, and please enjoy it along with visiting the exhibits according to the route.
